August 4, 2008
Welcome to the 2008 Broncos! First, we’d like to introduce our Board of Directors:
Jerry Bizzarro, President, George Kern, Vice President, Christine Corbett, Treasurer, Mary Alice Caddigan, Secretary, Sue Adorno, Public Relations, Joe Falletta, Asst. Public Relations, John Swist, Equipment Manager, Sue Burdick and Barbara Natland, Cheerleading Coordinators
All 2008 season information will primarily be relayed via email sent out by our newly renovated website, LIBroncos.com. If you have not yet logged on to the site, please do so asap, so you can be kept up-to-date. If you do not have access to email or the website, please let your Team Mom know and she will do her best to keep you informed. Be sure to check in with LIBroncos.com often to stay current on our news, photos and features as well.
For those of you new to the Broncos, some basic information first. Football practices will be held every Tuesday and Thursday beginning August 5th, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Seaman’s Neck Park. If you are unable to make a practice or game, be sure to let your coach know. Make sure no garbage (empty water bottles, etc.) is left on any field after practices or games.
CHEERLEADING: Cheerleading will also be held on Tuesday and Thursdays beginning August 5th at Seaman’s Neck Park as follows:
5 & 6 year olds 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.
7,8,9,10 & 11 year olds 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
- IMPORTANT! At all practices, girls must have their hair in ponytails and wear shorts & sneakers. No flip-flops, jeans, skirts or jewelry are allowed!
TEAM MOMS: Every football team and cheerleading squad needs two Team Moms, who are instrumental in helping our season run smoothly. If anyone is interested in volunteering, please let your coach know. Football coaches, please let me know ASAP who your Team Moms are for the season.
Football Team Moms: I will be holding a meeting on Tuesday, August 12th, 6:15 p.m. at Seaman’s Neck Park by the clubhouse – see you then!
EQUIPMENT: If anyone is having equipment problems, please notify your Head Coach who will then submit a list of equipment issues to John who will subsequently take care of it. Jerseys have been ordered and should be in the first week in September. Remember, all football players must purchase a girdle and athletic supporter in order to play.
REFUNDS: As is our policy, anyone who quits before August 15th will receive a refund, minus the insurance fee and cost of the jersey ($50), as the jerseys have already been ordered. You will get a call when they’re in. Anyone who quits on or after August 15th will not be entitled to any refund, the one exception being if you do not make weight at weigh-in. Hopefully this will not affect many of you.
SPONSORS: As most of you know, sponsors are critical to the success of our organization. Without them, we cannot provide our kids with the best equipment, fields, uniforms, etc. With any sponsors you bring in, we will need 2 business cards, along with a check made out to LI Broncos that can then be given to any board member. $150 sponsors and above will have their name added to our Sponsor Banner that is prominently displayed at all home games, and all sponsors will receive recognition in our yearbook and be listed on our website as well. New this year, businesses can also become the official sponsor of one of our teams or squads with a $500 or $800 donation. Anyone who brings in a $500 or $800 sponsor will get a free Bronco registration for their child as well. Please try to help your child’s program by recruiting any sponsors you can. For further information on the program and to get sponsor brochures, please contact Jim Corbett at 221-0379, cell at 646-264-8131, or at james_j_corbett@yahoo.com.
CANDY SALE: Just a heads up on our annual candy sale. This year once again we will be distributing candy the first week in October, and will be selling the popular Hershey’s brand candy. Each family (not each player or cheerleader) is responsible for selling one box of candy at $52 per box. The Team Moms will be collecting the money ahead of time to avoid us trying to track it down the rest of the season and will let you know when it’s due. Please make checks payable to Long Island Broncos. Please note also, team moms will be collecting a small donation toward the team banner that they’ll be working very hard on to get ready for opening day.
WEIGH-INS: Weigh-ins will be held at the end of August at Phelps Lane Pool Complex in North Babylon. There is a new NSFL policy this year. Veteran players who already have an NSFL ID card will not need to attend the official weigh in. The weigh-in is, however, mandatory for all first time Bronco players – any new player not officially weighed in will not be able to play football this season. All first time players must bring ORIGINAL birth certificate or passport. Players who already have ID cards will be weighed in on Week 1; anyone who does not make weight by Week 2 will be ineligible to play for the season. Players must come as a team, not individually. Your coach will give you further details on where and when to meet. See the NSFL.com website for exact dates by age group.
PICTURES: At our annual awards dinner in January, every player/cheerleader will receive a yearbook. In order to include as many kids, parents and fans as we can in it, we need help taking pictures. Please forward copies of any pictures taken at games, practices, picnic, etc. to Joe Falletta (jfalletta@libroncos.com), and we will use as many of them as possible. Pictures will be posted weekly on the website as well – don’t be left out!
IMPORTANT DATES: (More info to follow as these dates approach)
September 6 Opening Day Ceremonies & Family Picnic
September 7 First official day of games
September 12 Pictures (5 – 9 p.m.)
We’re looking forward to another great season. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact any of our board members. Remember, as always . . . keep the Bronco spirit alive!
